Itinerary

Day 1Cusco

Our team will receive you at the airport in Cusco. They will take charge of your transfer to your hotel. Welcome to the Inca capital city. Rest in your hotel for a moment before our city tour.

At 1:30 pm we’ll take you on a city tour. From your hotel we’ll go to the main sites in the city. We’ll star in the Koricancha. Also known as the Temple of the Sun, was the main regius center in the Inca Empire.

After this we’ll move to the surrounding area of the city. The archeological site of Saqsayhuaman will be our first stop. Here a guide will guide you through its walls made with massive stones.

Saqsayhuaman was a ceremonial site dedicated to the fertility of the earth. This is also the main scenario for some living traditions in Cusco.

Qenqo will be our next destiny. This was a ceremonial center. Its main centerpiece is an altar for sacrifices.

Puca Pucara is the next site. This was a center of control of the Inca trail (on its original extent). Finally we’ll visit Tambomachay. This was a place for the adoration of water as an entity.

The tour in total takes around 4 hours. After this you are free to explore the city a little more, or to rest. That night you’ll sleep in your chosen hotel.

Day 2Sacred Valley

Today we start the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu part of the tour. Our staff will pick you up around 6 – 7 am. We’ll go into the town of Chinchero as our first stop.

Chinchero is a picturesque town. The colonial church has some stunning decor with paintings and gold leaf ornaments. We’ll also visit the local textile workshop for a demonstration.

After a little more bus travel, we’ll arrive in Moray. Moray is unique for its concentric agricultural terraces. This is an ancient agricultural laboratory. This place was key in the food security of the Inca Empire.

The Salt Mines of Maras are near Moray. The Salineras (local name) dates back from pre-inca times.

These salt mines are still operative. They are spectacular. Hundreds of small pools of salt in the walls of a canyon.

For lunch, we’ll go to Urubamba. There a buffet lunch will be waiting for us. The lunch will be a buffet with local and fresh products. Here you will be able to try Peruvian food.

After lunch we’ll go to the inca ruins of Ollantaytambo. This site is of considerable size. We’ll explore the complex before taking the train to Aguas Calientes. This will be the last guided tour of the day.

We’ll catch the evening train to Aguas Calientes. The train ride is scenic. You’ll see the landscape of the Andes transform into cloud forest. Once you arrive, there will be a member of our staff to take you to your chosen hotel for the night.

Day 3Machu Picchu

Today is the main day in this Machu Picchu Sacred Valley expedition. We’ll have an early breakfast. We’ll take the CONSETTUR official bus to Machu Picchu citadel.

The ascent will take 35 minutes on a steep zig-zaging road. You’ll enjoy a comprehensive guided tour in Machu Picchu. You’ll visit all the main sites such as the burial ground and the Intihuatana. This tour will last for about 2 hours.

After the tour you’ll have some free time to explore freely and take pictures. If you book in advance you can use this time to climb the Huayna Picchu (extra 75 USD per person).

For lunch time, we’ll go back to Aguas Calientes. You’ll be able to explore the culinary scene in Aguas Calientes (this lunch goes on your own). Then, you may have time to explore a little more.

You have to be at the train station 30 minutes before the hour indicated in your train ticket. We’ll take the train back to Ollantaytambo. In Ollantaytambo another staff member will be there. We’ll be ready to take you in private transport back to Cusco and to your hotel.

For the night you have an airport transfer to the airport. This will be the end of Peru Ancestral paths’ services.
