For a unique hike and destination look no further than the Queswachaka Inca Bridge. Peru Ancestral Paths invites you to this andean adventure to the Q’eskwachaka bridge. This exclusive day trip showcases one of Peru’s lesser-known sites. 

The adventure begins early. We’ll cross the South Valley of Cusco to the Canas province to start our trail to the Queswachca Inca Bridge. Our first encounter will be the mini volcano in Yanaoca.

We will journey towards the Apurímac River, where the Queswachaca Inca Bridge proudly hangs. Made from traditional grass, this suspension bridge gets rebuilt annually, preserving an ancient custom.

The Inca bridge trail is one of the most unique tourist attractions in Peru. It’s a piece of living in a Heritage. The rope bridge is a unique structure. The renewal process is an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

The hike to the Inca Bridge is an easy trek, suitable for all ages. It involves a scenic walk with stone steps leading directly to the bridge. You will spend about 30 minutes crossing and exploring the bridge. 

Our guide will introduce us to the Huinchiri, Chaupibanda, Choccayhua, and Ccollana communities. They keep this tradition alive.

After crossing the Queswachaka bridge, you will enjoy a short rest. The return walk will take approximately 15 minutes, but this tour will take you to the 4 Lagunas circuit. 

Visit the observation point of 4 high altitude andean Lakes. This is a scenic walk that takes our Inca Bridge Trail to the next level. With spectacular nature views, and encounters with small villages.

Itinerary

Day 1Queswachaca Inca Bridge Trail

This Qeswachaka bridge adventure will start really early in the morning. At 4:30 We’ll depart to the south of Cusco. Breakfast will be on a stop in the town of Cusipata. We’ll continue the bus drive afterwards to the Yanaoca district.

In yanaoca we’ll have the curious view of a small volcano in formation. We’ll keep going for one hour to 40 minutes to Quehue district.

In Quehue, on top of the Apurimac River, the Queswachaca Inca bridge stands. This 29 meters long suspension bridge is an Inca legacy. The rope is made of local vegetable fibers. Eacha year the local community renews the bridge so it remains functional in the traditional way of the incas. 

Our guide will explain more about the process, history and tradition around the last inca bride of the world. You can cross the bridge. But we have a lot more to visit during this day.

After, we’ll visit the Mososqllaqta viewpoint to better appreciate the Pampamarca and Asnaqocha Lakes. From there we’ll walk to another view point to take a look at the Pomacanchi and Acopia Lakes. This is the famous 4 Lagunas circuit, of the 4 lakes circuit. 

During this part you will appreciate andean communities and the impressive high altitude nature. The landscapes are impressive and beautiful. More than a tourist attraction these are a showcase of the andes diversity and grandeur. 

At the end of our visit to the 4 Lakes. We’ll hop on a bus to return to Cusco. We’ll have a stop in Cusipata for lunch. We’ll be back in Cusco by 5:00 pm.

Before you embark on the Queswachaka Inca Bridge Trail, consider a few key points. The best time to visit the Queswachaka bridge is during the dry season, from May to September. During the rainy season, the paths can be slippery and more challenging.

The trail to the Queswachaca Inca Bridge is relatively easy, but it starts at high altitude. Visitors should spend a few days acclimatizing in Cusco to avoid altitude sickness. The hike involves uneven terrain, so wear sturdy hiking shoes.

Crossing the Queswachaca rope bridge is safe, but it sways and might not suit those with a fear of heights. Always follow the guide’s instructions for safety. Also, the bridge has a capacity limit, so wait for your turn to cross.

Finally, keep in mind that the Queswachaka bridge is a sacred site for the local communities. Respect their traditions and the natural environment during your visit.
