This Ausangate Rainbow Mountain trek takes you, finally, to the Rainbow Mountain hike. This trek promises adventure, nature and culture in the most stunning andean land.
On the Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain Trek, from Day 1, you’ll immerse in stunning scapates. You will have enough time to discover hidden lakes and relax in hot springs. The route and pace are more relaxed than other treks for the extra day.
Trek in solitude. Enjoy these remote areas like the Arapa Pass. After disconnecting from the world, witness the Rainbow Mountain before returning to Cusco. The Rainbow Mountain trek is one of the most popular day trips from Cusco.
Your safety and comfort are our priorities. We provide high-quality gear and a well implemented first aid kit. In the morning you will enjoy coca tea, for its medicinal and cultural importance.
But further from our measures, altitude sickness is a concern. Please plan your trip to give you a window to adapt to the altitude of Cusco before the Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain Trek.
Peru Ancestral Paths will welcome into the Ausangate Rainbow Mountain Trek early. We’ll leave Cusco at 6:00 AM. The drive takes 2 to 3 hours to the start of the trail in Upispampa.
After the start of the hike, we will walk for 7 km / 4.5 miles to the Upis villages. We start hiking by 8:00 AM. Here we will settle for the day.
You can take a guided tour to the Upis Lake. Or you can relax in the thermal baths. You can also take time to get to know the town.
Lunch will be here. We will stay in private bungalows. We will be near the base of Ausangate Mountain.
The second day kicks off with a warm breakfast at 5:00 AM. We’ll have an immersive experience in Upis to learn about life in town. From there we’ll start trekking.
Arapa Pass is our destination. On the way there, we may have encounters with andean wildlife (vicuñas, condors, and vizcachas). This is the best day to take pictures.
Lunch will be at our campsite in Puca Qocha. The camp is next to a lake. There we’ll observe andean birds like ibis and andean ducks. Our campsite is mostly made of local materials, like rocks and clay.
We’ll spend the night here, next to gorgeous views of the Red Lake (Puca Qocha).
This will be the hardest hiking day. After breakfast, we’ll trek towards Abra de Puca Cocha. Here you will have spectacular views of the Ausangate Mountain.
Then we’ll start the descent to Ananta Valley. We will traverse through Warmi Saya Pass. Here you can peak at Rainbow Mountain.
At the end of the hike, we will be at Kayrawiri. Our camp is near Rainbow Mountain and promises vibrant sunset views. Then you will rest in our camp for the night.
The final day starts before dawn at 4:30 AM. We aim to reach Rainbow Mountain for sunrise. The mountain will be 45 minutes away. We will take the breakfast to go.
We will hike and explore the Redd Valley after witnessing the sun rise from the mountain. This is the most important part of the Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain trek. This is a golden opportunity for getting the best pictures.
You will have more time to immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes. Then we will start the descent. Our lunch will be at a local restaurant. From there, we will take our private bus to Cusco.
An extraordinary adventure! The Ausangate Rainbow Mountain Trek over 4 days and 3 nights was an unforgettable journey through the stunning landscapes of Peru. From the majestic peaks of Ausangate to the vibrant colors of Rainbow Mountain, every moment was filled with wonder and awe.
