Join us on an amazing eight-day journey with Peru Ancestral Paths. We will immerse ourselves in the rich tapestry of Peruvian culture and nature. Starting in the vibrant city of Lima, we will delve into its historic heart during a comprehensive city reception. The next day, an hour’s drive will bring us to the stunning Paracas National Reserve.

Our adventure continues as we set sail on a Ballestas Islands tour, known as the ‘Galapagos of Peru’. Is where we will spot Humboldt penguins and admire the rugged beauty of the Paracas Peninsula.

After exploring the marine wonders, we will experience the thrill of a dune buggy ride in Huacachina, Peru. Climbing to the top of the dune, we will witness a breathtaking sunset across the desert oasis. This is the cherry on top fir a perfect end to a thrilling day.

Exploring Cusco and Beyond

Next, we will embark on a day trip from Lima to Cusco, where we will explore ancient streets on a city tour. We will learn about the historical significance of each site with our knowledgeable tour guide. In Cusco, the gateway to the Sacred Valley awaits, where we will explore traditional markets and Incan ruins.

The journey through the Sacred Valley will culminate in a visit to the iconic Machu Picchu. We will rise early to catch the first light over the awe-inspiring ruins. We’ll make sure we beat the crowds and enjoy a quieter experience.

Later, we will travel to the serene Humantay Lake. Is sitting at an elevation where altitude sickness might be a concern, so we’ll take it slow.

Our final challenge will be the ascent of Rainbow Mountain, located a few hours’ drive from Cusco. We will hike to its summit, standing at 5,200 meters (17,060 feet), where breathtaking vistas await. Throughout this journey, group tours will ensure that we share these memorable moments.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival and Hotel Transfer in Lima

Upon arrival at Lima’s airport, we will be greeted by a Peru Ancestral Paths representative. This welcome will mark the beginning of our journey. We will then be transferred to our selected hotel in Lima, where we can settle in and relax after our travels. This day is designed to provide comfort and ease as we prepare for the exciting days ahead.

Day 2Tour Ballestas Islands and Huacachina Oasis

We will start early, picking up from the hotel between 4:20 and 4:50 AM, heading towards the serene beach town of Paracas. At the Marina Turística de Paracas, we will embark on a speedboat tour to the Ballestas Islands. During the boat ride, we will observe the mysterious geoglyph “El Candelabro” and learn about its speculated origins. Our guide will share insights as we spot seabirds, sea lions, and possibly the elusive Humboldt penguin.

After returning to the mainland, we will head towards Ica. It’s going to be our time to visit the Nietto Vineyard to discover traditional wine and Pisco making. Following the tasting, we will adventure into the Huacachina Oasis. Here, thrilling buggy rides and sandboarding on the dunes promise an adrenaline-filled afternoon.

We will conclude our day with a cultural experience at Racimo de Uva vineyard in Chincha. This involves local performances before returning to Lima. We will say goodbye to Ica by 17:30 and we will arrive in Lima at 22:30.

Day 3Transfer to Cusco and City Tour

Early in the morning, we will transfer from our hotel in Lima to the airport for our flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, we will have a traditional coca tea, aiding in acclimatization. In the afternoon, our Cusco city tour begins.

We will visit the essential Qoricancha and the Convent of Santo Domingo. Next, we explore the expansive Sacsayhuamán fortress, the ritual site of Qenqo, the lookout of Puca Pucara. Finally, Tambomachay, a ceremonial water site.

Day 4Super Sacred Valley Tour with Aguas Calientes Connection

Our day starts early from Cusco between 06:00 and 07:00. Our first stop is heading to Chinchero, where we will explore its colonial church and Inca remains. Once there we will be able to appreciate the local textile workshops.

At Moray, we will see the impressive agricultural terraces, resembling a natural amphitheater. The journey continues to the salt mines of Maras, which have been in use since Inca times.

Lunch will be in Urubamba, tasting the valley’s finest produce. The day ends with a tour of Ollantaytambo’s archaeological site. After our visit,  we will catch a train to Aguas Calientes. This picturesque village serves as our gateway to Machu Picchu.

Day 5Machu Picchu Exploration and Return to Cusco

We will begin our day early, right after breakfast. Our priority is to make the most of our time at the legendary “Lost City of the Incas,” Machu Picchu. A 35-minute bus ride will take us up the winding road to the site. Here, our guided tour will cover Machu Picchu’s main attractions including the Main Square, Circular Tower, Sacred Sun Dial, Royal Quarters, Temple of the Three Windows, and ancient cemeteries for over two hours.

After the guided tour, we will have free time to explore further. Options include hiking to the Sun Gate or the Inca Bridge. For those seeking the thrill of Huayna Picchu, tickets are available at an extra cost ($75.00).

In the late afternoon, we will take the train back from Aguas Calientes. Once we descend to the Machu Picchu Pueblo, you’ll have the chance to have lunch in one of the varied options. The we’ll head to Ollantaytambo, followed by a drive to our hotel in Cusco.

Day 6Full Day Tour to Humantay Lake

Our adventure to Humantay Lake starts with an early morning pickup at 4:30 AM from the hotel. We will drive for two hours to Mollepata to enjoy a hearty breakfast. After another hour’s drive to Soraypampa, we will begin our hike to Humantay Lake, situated at 4,200 meters (13,779 feet). The ascent takes about 1.5 hours through stunning landscapes, with views of the Salkantay and Humantay peaks.

At the lake, we will have time to take photos, make offerings to the Apus (sacred mountains). We’ll appreciate Apu Salkantay and Apu Humantay from afar. Soak in the surreal beauty of the turquoise waters.

The return hike to Soraypampa takes about an hour. We will then head back to Mollepata for lunch and return to Cusco by 6:00 PM.

We will depart at 4:00 AM from the hotel and travel for two hours to our breakfast spot. Afterward, we continue for another hour to the trailhead, where our hike to the Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) begins. This 4 km hike through striking landscapes takes about two hours. At the summit, 5,200 meters (17,060 feet) high, we will enjoy breathtaking views of the colorful mineral-rich mountain.

After experiencing Rainbow Mountain, we will embark on a 30-minute hike to the seldom-visited but equally stunning Red Valley. Post-hike, we will return to the trailhead, have lunch, and then travel back to Cusco, arriving around 5:00 PM.
