Itinerary

Day 1Maras and Moray Peru

Our quad bike adventure in the Sacred Valley will start at 7:00 am with us picking you up from your hotel. We’ll go to the small town of Cruzpata (50 minutes). The views surrounding the towns are calming.

In Cruzpata our guide/instructor will drive a briefing and safety instructions. We’ll gear up for safety and we’ll ride the quad bikes. On our way, we’ll depart for adventure.

We’ll ride 2 hours towards Moray. The archaeological site was an inca experimentation center. The crops developed in this palace probably still feed thousands.

Moray is a complex of agricultural terraces. The terraces of Moray are circular and go down the earth. Each floor has a different temperature. This is a sight to behold.

Our next stop will be the Salineras, or the Maras Salt Mines. We’ll traverse a part onboard a private transport to avoid some highway risk. In the Maras Salt mines will learn about the salt production process.

The view is amazing. In the walls of a  canyon you will encounter near 3 thousand carved pools shimmering under the sun. The sun evaporates the water leaving the salt crystallizing on the surface. The salt water comes from underground.

These mines, created before the consolidation of the Inca empire, remain functional till this day. Maras salt is the most used table salt of this region.

At 12:00 we’ll start the return to Cusco by bus. We’ll arrive at Cusco at 1:00 pm, perfect for lunch (No meals included). Our transportation will leave you in Plaza Regocijo.

Useful Information

Information

Before your 9-day Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu, consider this. Optimal trekking conditions occur during the dry season from May to September. During this period, weather conditions are more stable, reducing the risk of rain and muddy trails. But there is still a chance of rain the whole year.

Prepare physically for the trek’s demands, which include high altitude rugged paths. Start training several weeks in advance to improve stamina and endurance. Acclimatization is crucial to avoid altitude sickness. Spend at least two days around 2.800 m (9,190 ft).

Ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance. I must cover high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation. Keep emergency contacts informed of your itinerary. Pack enough water.
